Nick Wolf (b. 2002) is an interdisciplinary artist who works in photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, and video. Currently located in Upstate New York, they are in their senior year at Purchase College working towards completing a BFA in drawing and painting.

Wolfs’ work is rooted in duality; primarily exploring the traditional American dream juxtaposed with themes of gender, sex, religion, family dynamics, examining the cultural/societal norms, and the self.

With the nature of the work being very process forward, the artist takes specificity of materiality and the tactile quality of the piece to the forefront when considering new work. Oftentimes leaning towards handmade or natural mediums such as wood, concrete, fabric, paper, etc., where the work is then built outwardly. Photography is used as a way to bridge a conversation between these two sides of his practice. Both using photography to express a more figure based or representational image, and the other as a way to respond.

The current work is often calling back to 50s-70s America. Nodding to the fashion and culture of this time in the photos and the historical implications in the physical work or vise versa. Pulling from different references and comparing it to our current modern age helps the artist in investigating this duality. The artist will also pull from his own lived experiences to help develop this work as well as curating a personal archive to further their departure in deconstructing and studying the fabric of America.
